Roses

I am not a rose person -- conditions in the mid-Atlantic area are too difficult to grow really spectacular roses, but some of mine were lovely this spring.

Beautiful roses! I have two anitique rose bushes (Old China Bloom and Paul D'evil or something like that) and two tea roses. I took a Rose Horticulture class at South about a decade ago, and still have the soil "formula" in my wallet. Ever hopeful. I almost had my garden planned....all antiques, all happy to be in my garden zone, plants from each family of antiques, each choice corresponding to the birth year of one of my children or grand children. (Old China Bloom is something 52, matching my birth year of 1952, for example.)I envisioned giving tours, teaching elementary children about the roses. And then I discovered the Year of Introduction on many antiques is imprecise...maybe something 52, maybe something 53... and then there was the digging, and the money. I still have the plans...
